The Awa Private Equity Limited Partnership Fund is the brainchild of our founder, David Bennett. David, together with his wife Marion, established and built Pacific Helmets NZ Limited in Whanganui. Pacific Helmets designs and manufactures specialised safety helmets mostly used by emergency services. Over the last 40 years, through economic peaks and troughs, the company has grown its New Zealand based staff to almost 100, and exports helmets to some 90 countries.

Whilst leading Pacific Helmets, David experienced first-hand the challenges faced by small to mid-sized businesses operating in provincial New Zealand. David’s desire to support these outstanding regional businesses inspired Mike Bradley and Tim Russell, both experienced PE fund managers, to work alongside David to create Awa Private Equity, a fund focused on delivering PE solutions to a region of New Zealand they all knew well.

The disruptions of the last three years only served to strengthen their resolve. The Awa PE Team, consisting of proven PE leaders, business owners and experienced investors, share the vision for investing in “Awa’s backyard” - the central and lower North Island. Together, the Team has established the Awa Private Equity Limited Partnership Fund, enabling investors to contribute to a number of cities, town and regions, all important to New Zealand as a whole, benefit from the value upside and make a measurable impact.
